Childhood and adolescence are times to discover and explore
what the world has to offer. They offer the opportunity to learn,
develop life skills, and build strong family relationships and
social ties.
Some children and youths, however, experience symptoms such
as tremendous sadness, uncontrollable anger or the inability
to function effectively in school or at home. Many children
with problems begin to isolate themselves by staying in their
rooms away from their families, friends or schoolmates.
When problems related to your child’s mental health or
use of alcohol and other drugs seem unsolvable, or unexplainable
symptoms or behaviors occur, ask the Windsor-Laurelwood Center for Behavioral Medicine for help.
Windsor-Laurelwood created its Child & Adolescent Services for children
and youths who require professional intervention and support
to resolve their behavioral health issues.
The Assessment
Our multidisciplinary treatment team provides responsive services
to quickly assess your child’s treatment needs and put
a customized treatment plan into place to ease his/her problems
and help get your child’s life on track. Our board- certified
child and adolescent psychiatrists, psychologists, registered
nurses, licensed social workers, clinical counselors and milieu and activity therapists
provide comprehensive behavioral health care to meet the special
needs of our youngest patients.
Seven-day-a-week, twenty-four-hour-a-day services are provided
for children and adolescents requiring inpatient treatment.
Separate, specialized programs for children ages 3 to 12, and
adolescents, 13 to 18 years of age are available.
Parents and other family members are welcomed into treatment
program participation, when appropriate. Your understanding of the goals and objectives
set by our professional staff with your child or adolescent
and the skill development required to reach those goals are
imperative to your child’s continuing recovery once he/she
has left our inpatient or outpatient treatment setting. Family
education groups and family meetings facilitate more effective
communication and help to build trust among family members.
Windsor-Laurelwood‘s comprehensive Child & Adolescent Services
include:
• Diagnostic Evaluation
• Psychiatric Assessment
• Psychological Evaluation
• Inpatient Treatment
• Group Psychotherapy
• Medication Evaluation and Management
• Partial Hospitalization Program
• Intensive Outpatient Groups
In the outpatient program, we offer substance abuse and dual diagnosis assessment and treatment
for adolescents who require those services.
In addition to inpatient treatment, Windsor-Laurelwood’s comprehensive
continuum of treatment services offer a full range of outpatient
services including a partial hospitalization program and
intensive outpatient program to assist your child or adolescent
in continuing his/her progress toward recovery.
